Jenny’s Essay 4 Ideas
Social Issues
There are three social issues seen throughout the novel, The Green Mile by Stephen King.
The first social issue is the most obvious--the death penalty. Paul has killed many men at the prison. Sometimes the executions go smoothly and sometimes they don’t. Edward Declacroix caught on fire and his eyes burst. He did burn six people but did he really deserve that? John Coffey was innocent yet he still met his fate in “Old Sparky”. The death penalty punishes bad people but sometimes innocent people pay the ultimate price for justice.
The second social issue is people like Percy Wetmore, the scum of society who makes life impossible for everyone else. Percy is such a pain that Paul compares him to Brad Dolan, a man who bothers him at the retirement home. Percy beats the prisoners, causes Declacroix’s mishap, and does whatever he feels like at the prison.
The third social issue is that Paul never actually tries to set John Coffey free. He knows John is innocent from the very beginning. He knows Coffey is different from the rest. Paul goes through a lot of time and trouble to get information on John, but never tells the warden.
The social issues in the novel are the fairness of the death penalty, people who do no good in the world, and the lack of courage to do what is right.

Essay4 Harter
One of the social issues that keeps coming to my attention in The Green Mile is racism. Had John Coffey not been a black man would he have received a fair trial and not ended up being put to death for a crime he did not commit? Does that still happen today? How many of the inmates on deaht row that belong to a minority may not have ended up there had life been more fair (or less racist) to minorities? Did their life experiences drive them to commit the crimes that put them where they are today?
Effects of Technology
Technology can be both beneficial and detrimental to society. Technology has affected society and its surroundings in many ways. It has vastly developed over decades giving luxury to people that can afford it. Though some books and movies have made up a story about how technology could cause a major devastation or malfunction, we have not faced it yet. In the novel "Cell" a Pulse is sent through cell phones causing people to turn into a crazy homicidal frenzy within minutes. “The Pulse” is the result a group/government trying to use technology advancement to control/manipulate people. This is one way technology can be detrimental. I will write about more problems with technology such as pollution and genetically modified foods.

Essay 4
Racism has been and is still today a big factor in America, and a lot of people might not think it is. But, truthfully it is and I have experienced it in the past with friends. Racism can be against a wide variety of people and not just African Americans; it can range from any kind of race. Not only can it be what you look like, but what you wear! A lot of people judge people on how they look instead of getting to know who they really are. If some people these days would just take the time to get to know someone for who they are not what they look like or how they dress, then maybe this world would be more civilized. Racism is a lot bigger than what many people think it is today, and maybe it is because it is becoming not as big of a deal as it used to be.
After reading the novel Misery by Stephen King, I have decided to write my essay about, Should people with mental illnesses be accountable for their actions as much as people who do not have a mental illness. For example, Is it justifiable to let someone walk away from prison in two or three years after murdering her children after she was diagnosed with mental illness?I plan on researching both point of views on this subject. I'm not even certain that I share a point of view just yet . I guess that I'm leaning towards taking it easy on the mental illness person because I have a sister in law that has a mental illness and if she had broken the law in some type of manner and I was on the jury it would be hard for me to convict her because I know how bad her mental illness really effects her. It does bother me when you hear people claim to have mental illnesses to get a lighter sentence.
Cody's Essay 4 Ideas
There are some underlying social issues that are apparent in this story. One is the fact that the majority of the people in the story take advantage of modern technology, such as cellular phones, and to their dismay it becomes their downfall. This raises the question to whether we as humans should implement such an array of technology into our everyday lives. Another underlying social issue is how humans' natural instincts and primitive traits are brought out whenever there is no means of moral judgment. There are a lot of other social issues in this book, and I will find out what they are as soon as I complete the novel.
Luis Vela - Why Don't You Pick on Somebody Your Own Size
On my 4th essay, I will talking about the being accepted. Nowadays, if your not the most handsome, gorgeous, or liked person. People did to treat you different and really don't care who you are. Some people may be an outcast due to some mental, physical problem they may have. The story Carrie is about a young girl that is not socially accepted by her peers. Her mother is very religious and tries to get Carrie to follow her beliefs. After being picked on, there comes a point where Carrie becomes very fustrasted and she then finds out about her special powers. Carrie ends up going to a prom and it's suppose to be a very special moment and it ends up with 2 of her school mates standing on a beam above Carrie and her date and they poured blood all over her when he and she were crowned. Carrie ended up using her power and killing everyone in the hall. She locked all the doors and the whole place caught on fire. She just wanted to be accepted but people had other things in mind for her.
death penelty essay 4. Butler
im going to do my essay 4 over the death penelty. it is a big thing in todays world and in the book. one of the biggest thing would be putting people to death that are innocent but cant prove there innocence. that is a problem with it. as of right now that is my only thing against it. it would be alot better if people that spend life terms would just be put to death so that our money wouldnt be spent making them stronger and smarter so they could write books or something. but i mean the people that are put to death that are innocent no one really knows that there innocent except for them or by what they say. but it still is a problem. but i believe if some one is convicted to death they should be put to death shortly after. instaed of pushing it back every time it gets close to time. the death penelty is good though. if some one commits a high enough crime they should be put to death. it saves them having to wait for it to come and saves money. but like in the green mile with john he was and innocent man that was in the wrong place just trying to help
Fornue, E. Essay IV thesis idea
After reading "The Dead Zone" written by Stephen King. I realized that there were issues from psychotic anger to rape. From deep sleep comas to psychic abilities and fame. In the book Greg Stillson has an anger management problem. Frank Dodd raping all those victims and finaly comminting suicide. John Smith in a four year coma, his psychic ability and wanting to defuse the media about his psychic capability. After doing some thinking I finally made my desicion to go with the coma route. Having a loved one in a coma position is difficult for people. With the expenses of keeping the loved one alive. Doctors advising you to pull the life-support. To Hoping the loved one awakes before money runs out and having to pull the plug. If the loved one made it, the issues of being in a coma state for various days to years. In John Smith's case which he lost the love of his life Sarah during his four year coma. The thought of feeling like beautiful precious time was stolen from you. So my thesis will surround coma effects. What effects does the patient have during and after a coma? How does a loved one in a coma state affect the family? What laws are in effect on coma issues?
Fred Gundermann Essay IV Stephen King
I have read the book Carrie and i really aprove of it but i must say im not to much of a reader but this book got me hooked and i can only say that the movie makes it look like crap. The main incedent that takes place is that carrie hit her period (first) and knew nothing about it and never knew what was happeing untill the girls in the gym class started to chant plug it up. she really never was the accepted type so it made matters worse. of course if a daily teased person gets completely humiliated like this somthing is bound to happen a magnatude greater than the origanal heartbreak. once she gets teased gose to principals office then gose home she discovers she has powers( of course she has powers why else would it be a book if not then it would be in the mind of Stephen king still, something has to be farfetched.) she gose on ignoreing that the incedent happened and sue asked her boy friend to take carrie to the prom and did so. Chris was another young lady involved in the canting along with Sue. Chris was rejected from prom for the chanting, and she decided to get carrie back. the plan was to spill pig blood all over her when she becomes queen. it was rigged thanks to fred, an acomplice to the blood spilling. and when prom night came Carrie got Queen and the pale fell. she got pist off and used her powers to lock doors shut. set off fire sprinklers witch short circuted the sterio equipment starting a fire. Carrie left the school but held the doors shut thanks to her telekanisis. she went threw the town desrtoyed all fire hydrants so the fire will keep burning. She went home to kill her mother for all the pain and such and they got into it and Carrie ended up with a kleiver in her left carrar bone. she killed her mom and left the house. the kliever strill remained in her while walking throught the town. also the mother constantly abused her and yelled at her for her not doing the right thing acording to jesue christ. she was a religious freak. she came across chris and billy trying to leave the Hop and killed them by causeing the car to swurve into a tree and she made it explode. she also was seting all the places in town on fire as she went home. she last came across sue in a parking lot and asked for help she wanted her mother and felt cold sue was holding her and she died then and there. then there were court reveiws over what had happend in the book as the last chapter and it seem to be that everyone that went on the stand as a witness could not say that they truley saw carrie do these things cuz those who did were killed. they just put it on her. they said if felt like it was carrie or carrie wouldve snapped......but she got what she wanted and that is what we see today at all the school shootings now.
Keith Beanland's Essay 4 Topic
I am going to write my essay about the effects of discrimination. In 'Salem's Lot there are many instances in the novel where the main characters were gossiped about and discriminated against simply because of the fact that they were new and unknown to the towns people.
Discrimination is simply a cheap tool used when someone has nothing better to say for lack of knowledge about that person or persons. In this essay I'm going to write about how discrimination has effected the world and use many examples. I will also include examples of discrimination that is still going on in today's world.

essay 4 ...trace
well at first i had a hard time finding a subject, then our group realized that we should use the novel as a springboard for our subject. i read 'Salem's Lot and in the novel a major issue was discrimination from the community. it affected every aspect of the plot. so i decided to write about the entire american people discriminating against all muslims. many people do not realize that the people who flew into the trade centers were barely even considered muslims. they are extreemist, rradical and not peaceful. true muslims are calm and peaceful in all aspects of their life. i will write about the problems of the us citizens discriminating.
jeremy's essay4 idea's
I will be writing about the dead zone. In the book the dead zone Johnny sees a premonition of the future about a polititian named Greg Stilston. In the premonition , Johnny sees that Mr. Stilson future will lead the world to death and destruction, and thus the end of mankind. So Johnny decides he must assassinate Mr. Stilson to save the world, my question now is if you could see the future would you attempt to change it. I would be using examples of history that could be changed and its implications, and also when bad things happened in history that turned out to be better for the world in the long run.
The Death Penalty
As I was reading "The Green Mile", the subject of the Death Penalty kept haunting me. I believe that the Death Penalty is justified in certain situations such as for serial rapists, serial killers, and repeated child molesters. We shouldn't have to feed and house these "soulless people".
Imagine if your child was a victim of a serial rapist. Suppose she had been totally devastated, and possibly would be throughout her entire life. Her rapist may as well have killed her. She would be more likely to commit suicide, suffer alcoholism, suffer drug abuse, and probably have some sort of sexual problem for the rest of her life. She would suffer from the constant fear of being raped again, and more than likely suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Her chances of having a normal, happy, and meaningful life would be next to none. That is no kind of life for her to live. And the people that she's surrounded by, the one's that love and care for her, suffer as well. That awful excuse for a human being; the one that raped her also killed her. Maybe not in the literal sense, but everything she once was, is gone now.
It takes forever to come to terms with being raped, and go on with your life. Not everyone is strong enough to get over certain traumatic events in their lives, if they are able to at all.
The Law says that all citizens have to pay taxes. These same taxes feed, clothe, and house these sorry excuses for human beings. Convicted murderers on Death Row have the freedom to write stories and get royalties from selling the book(s) that they write. They even get more money if one of their books is made into a movie. I believe that this is very wrong. That's not the kind of message that I would want to send the victims of these God awful crimes.
Some people believe that it's okay for these convicts to go on living their lives. I do not agree. I cannot help think about their victim(s), and their victim(s) families. Justice has to intervene, or killing, raping, and molesting will keep progressing.
Now don't get me wrong, not all people on death row should be executed. There are special circumstances in many cases. Some murderers are on Death Row for killing a repeated child molester who hurt, or possibly killed one of their relatives or a loved one. I don't believe in taking the law into your own hands, but I can certainly understand why someone would want revenge for molesting, raping or killing their loved one.
In King's novel "The Green Mile" Paul, the Head Guard has a hard time coming to terms with putting a gifted man to death. John Coffey is a huge black man, he's kind of slow, and he's a gift from God. He has the power to heal and sometimes he can revive the dead, but he has to do it within seconds of their deaths or it doesn't work. Coffey is convicted of raping and killing two little girls, that happen to be twins. Coffey found the girls out in the woods, and tried to save them, but it was too late. The law catches Coffey with both little girls in his arms; their bloody heads lying on Coffey's chest. Although he is innocent, Coffey is tried and convicted of the little girls rapes and murders. Paul struggles knowing that Coffey is innocent, and wants to try and figure out a way to save Coffey, but Coffey wants to die. It's Paul's responsibility for making sure Coffey's executed, and since Coffey wants to die, that makes Paul's job a little easier. Paul has a better chance of living with himself, as well as having a better idea of what he's going to tell God when Paul makes it to the Pearly Gates.
The Bible tells us that we do not have the right to take a life. Only God has the right for revenge, but it also states an eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth. When our forefathers started this Nation, they based our judicial system on the Bible. Prisoner's were put to death for such things as stealing horses or cattle. We have came a long way since then. The Law tells us that we cannot kill another human being. The Law says that if we do kill another, we will be put to death, as well.
A convicted murderer should die. They should suffer the same fate as their victims. Maybe that will make someone think harder before they molest, rape or kill little girls and boys. I know that some of you reading this may think that this sounds pretty brutal, but life is brutal. If you take a life, you should expect to die as well.

Shae's Idea of Racism!!! Is it still an issue in today's society.
My issue comes from the book "The Green Mile" by Stephen King. This book was about a man telling a story of his experience working in a penetentiary on death row. He retells the the events of how his life changed when a man named John Coffey walked the Mile. John Coffey was a black man who was accused, charged, and sentenced to death for the murder and rape of two white girls.
I feel as though regardless that Coffey was captured with the two dead girls in his arms, he still deserved a fair trial. He did not receive a fair trial basically because he was black. If there had been a white man holding those girls they would have taken every resource to prove that the white man was innocent. Racism is still an issue today. A lot of people dont feel it is an issue anymore because they dont see the burning crosses in the yards of black people and the lenchings like back in the day but, it still thrives.
I am totally against racism. It is not fair for people to be judged by skin color, religion, race, and etc.

♥MarTia♥- essay 4
if you have the power to see the future, should you be obligated to use your power to intervene and change things, or just let nature take its course and let whatever is going to happen happen?? this is the topic for my essay. in the novel the dead zone john smith can see the future, and he is using his power to help people in some cases and stop things from happening. but should he be obligated to do those things? i don't think so. of course for his own welfare, and for the welfare of those he loves or cares for, he'll want to, or even be glad to, but i don't think he should be obligated to do it. maybe he shouldn't intervene at all. but if i knew that something bad was
going to happen that would affect me or someone i cared about, i'd definitly interfere. but no i dont believe that he should be obligated to. there are too many bad things happening everywhere for him to possibly solve every problem, but if they are big, drastic things, then i'd hope that you'd want to help. but everything happens for a reason, right?? well, i know this sucks, and my ideas aren't all clear, but yea

I believe that the death penalty should not be enforced. First, I do not believe anyone is beyond redemption. Second, I belive that the death penalty is emoral. Finally, the death penalty expresses that revenge is justified.
I believe that no one is beyond redemption. I think that everyone deserves a second chance. Poeple should not be killed because of there mistakes. Gandi said that "a eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind". I do not believe that killing someone is in anyway justice. If a someone is found guilty of murder they are treated like the scums of the earth. Not that Im saying that we should be all lovy dovy with them. But when we go and kill the killer what does that make us. We killed a person. The person might of been a criminal but either way if you kill someone you are a murderer. It just doesnt make any sense. If someone kills someone they are condemed but if we kill the killer we are rewarded. that dosent make sense. I believe that are propally a couple of good people on death row. People whbo are truely sorry for their crimes. Im not trying to say that i think they shouldnt be punished, but i think killing them is a way to extreme. Life is precious and i do not think any human being has the right to take it away from someone.
I belive that the death penalty is emoral. I think emoral is a understatement. I think it is disgusting. It makes savages out of people. People say that murders deserve the death penalty because they killed out of cold blood. Do we not do the same when we execute them? Its not like the "executioner" is against what hes doing. The excecutioner probally thinks what he is doing is right and probally thinks the person desreves to die. The electric chair is especially emoral. Sending electricty through someones body till the die. Thats horrible.
Finally, I think that the death penalty jutifies revenge. It makes it a legal way for the familys of the murderers victim to seek revenge for there family member. People think that if the killer is killed justice is served. But what of the mother, child, family of the killer. Why could anyone put that pain on another family, when they knew how much it hurt.
I do not beleive the death penalty is justified. it is emoral and it makes people think that revenge is justified. No one deserves to die and no one is beyond redemption.

Steven Barajaz Essay 4 Ideas
I'm going to write my 4th essay about the reasons and effects of outcasts, because in the book "Cell" by Stephen King there are many social issues but the social issue that stuck out the most to me was, how easily humans can outcast there own just for there own benefit or so they can be part of a whole group. In the book people were exiled by there own, because they had killed a large group of zombies, and the zombies warned all the others that these people were to be left alone, and nobody should associate themselves with them. This isn't just an issue in a book, you see this in every school or workplace, in our society and it's not exceptable. Every group of people seem to always segregate and discriminate against another group or person which is maybe just the least bit different. Maybe their hair is not as pretty, they weigh more or less, they "talk funny", etc. but whatever the excuse its not right. It happens for the most part, because someone who is popular, does not like someone, and they just want to make it known that these people shoudnt be liked or that nobody should have anything to do with these people.

Well in 'Salem's Lot there was an underlying issue of stereotyping and social outcasting steaming from gossip. Form there a world of problems flow.
Illegal immigration fuels numerous arguments should we build the wall or not, should we deport all ppl of Mexican birth that are not American nationals yet, regardless of family ties.
From one little rumor a war can begin, race wars, gender wars, religion wars etc.
A prank can lead to a war in no time at all.
As Americans we have a responsibility to the rest of the world.
We are the melting pot of all nations, creeds, sexes ,orientation etc. we can not allow ignorance to destroy our country, education is our best defense.
I am going focus my essay on immigration.
The wall between the US and Mexico should not be built.
If we build a wall there then we need to fence in the entire country. why should we allow some people to come here and not others.

If you knew something terrible was going to happen would you change the future? In kings book The Dead Zone John Smith goes into a coma and when he comes out of it he can see the future. He sees a man, greg stilson, and what he plans on doing and decides he has to change it. But that is they question the book raises, if you knew something bad was going to happen would you do everything in your power to do so. I mean i would not want to see the future, but if i had the ablity to change the fure i dont knwo if i would. That is a hard quetion to answer. It is hard to say if you would change the future if i could. For example if you knew that 9-11 was going to happen would you have done what you could have in order to save all those people? I would have, i would have gone and done everything physically possible to make sure that those planes never left the airport, then we would not be in a war and we our nation would more soldiers alive today.
Jessica Benson Essay 4
My topic I believe is going to be racism/prejudice. My novel was 'The Green Mile'. I chose this topic because it is something that we still face in today's society. Prejudice is never a good thing. My stand on this topic is against. I believe people should not be quick to judge or make decisions based on color, gender, age, IQ or anything, but based on a person as a whole. Our government has the power to make laws that enforce being against being prejudice or a racist. I know in some places that it is illegal to discriminate, but do people honestly enforce it? We should make the laws more strict and make the consequences more fierce. Another thing I do not like, is when people get into an arguement and all of a sudden call the other person a racist because they are being called out. For example: A white male and a black male get into a heated discussion about how there is more poverty in this world and it is mainly minorities. After about 10 or 15 minutes the white male might say something personal, but not racial, to the balck male and he might get defensive and say "Oh, is it because I am black?" Now the white male is seen as a racist even though what he might have said wasn't racist at all. It is really hard sometimes to be put in situations where someone might think you are a racist or a sexist even when you are not. I wish the world could see its people as people and not by color, class, gender or orgin. It makes it really hard to be able to have the freedom of speech, but you have to watch everything you say and every move you make. My father was a veryu racist man and it always bothered me because a few of my friends were black and my best friend is vietnamese. He would always make excuses about how I couldn't go out with them because I had family things to do. It hurt me personally because I was just a kid who wanted to play with my friends. I never saw it as a black or white issue, ever. I believe in equal opprotunity and equal rights. People say it's an impossible goal to reach, but I beg to differ. In my mind it is one of the easiest goals in life to accomplish. Do not judge. It is a personal matter, but we are in a world that is surround by diversity and it should be seen as a beautiul thing. To learn about other cultures and how people live. There are so many idea's on this topic and I want to hear what you think! Thanks for listening to me ramble.. I hope it makes sense.
Similarities between our Society and Zombies
Society is very easy to compare to the vast changes that the citizens had to go through in Stephen King's Cell. The lack of a government structure, when the anarchy had spread, was what threw many people over the edge. Once there were no more laws to apply, the basic instinct to survive was brought out in man. In the book people killed each other over trying to find a place to live during the day, so they could then move around during the night. In Germany during WWII choas and panic was everywhere for the jews, they did everything to try and escape the nazi's, "the organized zombies". The propaganda of Hitler and the "Harved Zombie", is very similar. Hitler used propaganda posters to deture the jews, while the Harverd Zombie used mental telepathy to send threats and visions of death to the the normal people. During the book, the people learn that the only way they can get around is to move at night, since the zombies roam during the day. This is extremely similar to how the slaves would move up north during the night, since it was much easier to get caught during the day.
Zombies Everywhere!
It's quite easy to compare society to the brainless zombies in Stephen King's novel Cell. We tend to group together and follow a hive-mind like mentality. Take the recent release of Halo 3. Gamers everywhere flocked to stores like the undead to brains, and the groans of the half asleep didn't help with their zombie like image.
It's not just rampant consumerism that we flock to. People will follow the media, religion, and the government without quiestion or thought. A great example of this is the Nazi propaganda that was floating around during World War 2. Many Germans got behind the Nazi regime because they thought that they were doing something good and that they would bring Germany out of the depression that was caused by the first world war.

Should you be obligated to change the future just because you happen to have the power to. Is it your job... i think that if you are the only one that can stop it then there is.... Because in this book John Smith has a vision and sees that a man named greg stilson is going to like end the world. So john is trying to stop it....but many say that he should have to just because he knows this is going to happen. But i say yes he does...he is the only one who knows about this so yes he should feel some amount of obligation.Greg stilson is also running mayor which gives him even more power. But john smith knows what going to happen before it does. Ok i dont know what else to tell you about so i am done....thank you.

Essay4- Hearts in Atlantis.....Hmmm.....When I first started reading Hearts in Atlantis, I didn't know what to think. I didnt know what to write about. But then I started thinking...What's up with this Ted Brautigan Character? What is he really here for? Is he hiding from someone? Why does he have Little Bobby as his lookout? Who are these Low Men that are after him? Ted has a special power that some government officials want him to use in the war. What is the issue here? Should he use his power or should he continue to hide and stand his ground? I believe that if you have a way to possibly help someone then you should. You should always put someone elses best interests before your own. It is better to give then to recieve. All of these issues are exciting in my mind....its keeping me in suspense as I read and I would like to keep you that way until I write my paper. Where will this story take us next?

Travis- Essay 3
Im writing about the causes and effects of child abuse. and or the "problem children".
Think of a child that you may have went to school with, maybe the class bully or the shy quiet on that didnt have many friends. Why was that child so mean or withdrawn. The possible reasoning could have been more in depth then we could have pictured as kids. The child in question may have been verbally, physically or sexually abused at home. The number of abused children is staggering, and rapidly climbing. Parents/guardians don't know or care about the short and long term effects inflicted with each strike.

Gracie Doughty Essay #3
At first, I thought I'd like to write my essay on either spousal or child abuse. Both are quite traumatic and worldwide. After thinking about this for nearly a week, I have decided to write my paper on the homeless. Are the majority of homeless people substance abusers, alcoholics, outlaws, and the mentally challenged, or are the majority ordinary folks that got a raw deal in the ever changing times of our economy? If so, how long does it take, on an average, for these folks to get a roof over their heads?
Katrina and Rita made thousands of people homeless. A lot of us know these folks, myself included. Some of us may have been homeless at one point in our lives. I know that I have been homeless, more than once. Every one of us, has a different story to tell, and I hope to find one that I can write about. I would also like to find the most recent statistics on the homeless, and compare it to 10 years ago.
I believe that there are two types of homeless people. The kind that choose to be, and the kind that don't. I met a cab driver about 2 years ago, that told me that the homeless have "beat the system". He said that he watched a homeless man drink a beer while jaywalking in front of a police officer, and the officer did nothing. The cab driver said that the homeless don't have mortgages or rent, they don't have to pay taxes, they don't have car payments, and they get their food free. So in that cab drivers eye's the homeless man had beat the system. As I was thinking about it, half of me wanted to slap the "cabby" silly, and the other half wanted to agree. I know that in my case, as well as a few homeless folks I have met, they all wish they had those bills. A lot of them were drawn to substance abuse and alcoholism after they had been homeless for a while. It was their way of "killing the pain".
Life is challenging, and can be very cruel. As I type this, I hear my Grandma's voice telling me, " Sometimes there are mountains or mudpuddles. If you can't walk over them or around them, you just gotta walk through them!". I was blessed to have her in my life, because that's just the kind of thinking that got me out of my homeless situations, and back on track. But my life, or situation is not the same as others. This is why I've decided to write on the homeless.

Patrick, B essay #3
On essay 3 I will be writing about a lot of different social issues and the causes and effects of them. One such social issue I will write about will be violence and its causes and effects on society. There are many reasons that people are violent towards each other. Someone might cut you off on the highway and give you the finger for you honking at them. That can definitely cause a violent act to occur. Someone might bump into you several times in a crowded place and not apologize for it. Some people become violent when this occurs. Some people become violent when someone looks at them wrong. These types of people have serious social issues and should not be allowed in public. There is a lot of different type of violence and the acts are carried out in a lot of different ways. You have those people that become so violent and angry that it causes them to take someone’s life. These are the type of people that society needs to be violent back at. Do you know what type of effect this has on people’s lives? To actually lose a loved one or someone you know and respect due to know reason at all. That has a serious effect on people in our society today. This is definitely a serious problem that definitely needs to be addressed. And I will be happy to be the one to bring it to everyone’s attention. I could go on for days about violence but I will save that for my paper. This is just one of the few social issues I will be writing about on Essay 3. I hope you enjoy...

My Cause and effect
The cause that I chose to rant about would have to be that children are a extreme source of phsycosamatic personalities. It really is'nt have to not focus on the idea. In last rung on the ladder the kids missed behaved and ended with the parents getting angry, but this the smallest case of "childnoiance" as it would be called. Now if the teacher from suffer the little children is taking to thought, she goes flipping nuts! She believes that the children were that of another species. She goes on the killing spree thanks to Robert saying that they are every where, by leading them into a old room for a so called "test" and shoots them one at a time. Now, the story Children of The Corn, just is very creepy, kids will dominate and kill. The children are to the point of over needy somtimes and cause for high demands witch the parent gardian or the adult can handle and what happens..? The adult goes into thisdefense mode and tries to shut the childs amores down. In the Boogyman, the children keep asking for the help then the adult dosnt notice any thing like in the story the boy who cried wolf, is how it ended up, well almost the only thing is that the parent "dad" did morne over the incedents and told the phsycirtreist, witch ended up being the Boogyman. but i think that the children are a drastic part of humans reaching the stress limits and flipping out.
butler, eric. essay 3
There are a lot of pressures in todays society. For my essay I am going to write about the causes and effects of todays society. In todays world there are a lot of things that affect the way you live. One of the main things that will have an effect on your life is the gas prices. Like in " Mrs. Todds Shortcut" she could of been taking shortcuts to save gas along with time. maybe she wanted to save the money so sge could spend it on something else rather then give it all to oil refinarys. I believe that the refinarys and where ever they get the oil from are pretty much running the world. Because of them increasing the prices is causing every thing to rise in price. Because of them the cost of living has raised a tremendous amount and is going to continue to rise. The rise of gas prices is putting a lot of pressure on people and causing them to have to spend there money more wisely and cut down on a lot of driving. Today people are having to sell there cars to buy like hybrid cars or something that gets really good gas mileage. People wanting more money is causing gas prices to go up which in effect is causing everything to go up and making the poor get poorer.

Essay #3
Society puts a lot of pressure on how people look, act, and even feel. This starts as soon as a person enters this world. The way a child is raised plays an enormous role in how the child will turn out as an adult. Lester Billings’ mother was too strict with him and overprotective. In “Boogeyman”, Lester kills his own kids by letting a monster murder them and by not being a good father. He is the man of the house and expects his wife to do whatever he says. He knows the boogeyman is after him, but he lets the monster kill his children to try to save himself.
The “American Dream” is the desire to succeed in life and raise a family. Sometimes people have goals and when they don’t achieve them, bad things happen. In “The Last Rung on the Ladder,” Larry’s sister Katrina longs for a family. Her brother is too busy to visit her and her two marriages have ended in divorce with no children. Katrina ends up swan-diving off a building just like she used to do in sports when she was a kid.
The only bad thing is that every single person in the world has his/her own version of the “American Dream”. Financial security and luxury items has a different meaning for one person. For others, murder and evil are sought. In “Suffer the Little Children”, Miss Sidley kills twelve of her students because she thinks they are aliens. She is very strict, but she is a good person. She just thought it was necessary to kill the twelve children.

essay #3
The pressure of living in society is higher then ever. If you look different, act different, and even talk different then the so called normal person, you will be made fun of. It is not right to judge people. If you judge a person, then you are a resist. In to day’s society you all most have to de perfect to fill like you are a normal person. Another thing in to day’s society is race. If you are the wrong color it is hard to get any benefits from the government. Look at the Mexican population all of them pore people come to America to have a better life, and all we do is tell them they are not good enough to be here. Who are we to say they can’t live here America we should not be acting this way. We all need to look after and tack care of each other. All people are equal and should be treated that way.
Time and it's Effect
For my essay I am wanting to the cause and effects on how time effects people so much in their daily lives. Simply for the reason that time takes so much apart in everyone’s live on a daily basis. It can be for work, doctor’s appointment, or wide range of many things. Time is a very big thing in many people’s lives, especially in the century we are in today. Some people just live by when they have to be here or there, and do not take the time anymore to realize what is important about their lives. They are simply worried about what they have to do by a certain time or where they have to be by a certain time. If we did not live by such a structured world on time the world would probably be more relaxed, and not so stressed out everyday about time.
The Law of Attraction
We live in a world that is in constant change everyday. There are many things that happen in our world whether it is good or bad. Although, it seems like the times we live in are getting worse and worse. For example, what made the alcoholic an alcoholic? What made the heroin addict addicted to heroin. There are many reasons why people choose to go that direction.
Drug addiction is one of the main avenues that people decide to take. And the majority of those people either end up dead, homeless, or very sick. People use drugs as a gateway solution to try to get rid of their problems and feel more at ease. Maybe at first a human being tried a drug because of peer pressure to fit into the crowd and did it only to look cool. And as time goes on, a little here and a little there starts becoming a habit. And then 10 years later, that individual is addicted to a certain drug and hungers for it. People use drugs for many variety of reasons. Some may use it for getting high or maybe their depression. Regardless of the reason, they use the drug due to the fact that they have become addicted. And the cause of that addiction leads them to want more and more everyday and it destroys their life.
A lot of former drug addicts use to say, “I’m only going to try it once” and it usually doesn’t stop there. Next thing you know, they spend all their pay check on drugs instead of feeding his or her family. Selling things they own just to have enough to get another high. Now the drug has not only affected the drug user, it has now affected the entirefamily. The effects of drugs now causes the family to suffer so the parent can fulfill their lustful habits.

Essay 3 Idea's
Addictions. We all have them. When we think of addictions though, what comes to mind? Drugs? Alcohol? Or perhaps even smoking? What if these were just the beginning of addiction, or rather, just a few given. Do we as humans have addictions we never knew we had? Or perhaps we know and just don't want to admit it. Addiction isn't just something that can hurt you. Addiction can be something healthy, and still be an addiction. In my paper I would like to write about how the human being can tell himself/herself that he/she is not addicted, even though they are. How the human likes to lie to itself to make itself feel better.
Causes and Effects in today's society
I personally think that there are a lot of pressures in today's society. Pressure to become successfull and look as the world would have you to look while doing so. Take the story the "The Last Runt on The Latter" for instance. Growing up the sister and the brother in this story were very close. She felt like he would always be there for her and protect her. Well they grew up. The pressures of his job and becoming successful took a toll on their relationship. He didn't have any time to visit his sister or even return any of her letters. The sister that he truely loved and was once so close to. That's how a lot of today's houses are. Everybody has work, school and lot's of other things going on and they tend to forget what's really important to them. In my story I will dicuss both cause and effect. Just maybe if her brother would have returned her letters or gave her a visit just maybe she would not have killed herself.

Oil Demand in the U.S.
Oil Demand in the United States of America is a huge concern with everyone who has to pay at the pump. The demand has caused a great increase of the price at the pump. Even though everyone who drives a vehicle has to suck-it-up and pay the price. My essay will explain to you how that demand affects all of us and what we are doing to lower the demand. Our economy runs on oil. You raise the price of the barrel and the price of the trucker who ships the produce raises its fee. In the end the produce seller has to sell its product at a higher price in order to make a profit. The US is currently relies mostly on the Middle East for oil. Electrical and hydrogen vehicles are currently being developed to reduce the oil demand. Flex-Fuel vehicles are now in production which consists of a mixture of 85% ethanol per gallon.

Shae's view on "The effects H.I.V / A.I.D.S have on society"
H.I.V is becoming an epidemic, but the question is why? We cant blame a lack of education
for being the reason of the rapid spread of this disease. There are so many seminars, tv shows, and books out here to help educate us on how to protect ourselves against this disease. Unprotected sex is the easiest way to spread this disease. In todays society they have condoms in bathrooms not to promote teenage sex but to educate on the seriousness of protection against STD's. There are clinics out there that will give free condoms out to people in need. Sharing dirty needles are another way to spread this disease.
The first cases of the virus now known as AIDS were identified in the U.S. in 1981. When this disease originated it was considered to target homosexuals, but thats not the case anymore. A similar phenomenon is occurring globally, in which the most poverty-stricken, powerless countries are those hardest hit by the AIDS pandemic. They are threatened with devastating results that are just beginning to be recognized. HIV is also problematic for people of color living in the U.S., with different rates of infection occurring most notably among African-American males.
If we dont take this disease seriously and realize that this can happen to us and we are not exempt from catching this disease, we are gonna be a population of infected people with a fast trip to the grave. This disease dont have a name on it. It kills, probablly not rapidly but eventually.

I'm going to write my essay over both the cause and effect of drug abuse and murder. I will refer to the short story "Sneakers" on drug abuse along with murder and also, the short story "Nona" on murder. When writing my essay, I will go into more detail about what may cause a person to to do drugs and the effects of the drugs that one may abuse as well as murder and it's effect. I am going to use the internet to find more articles on these two topics. I intend to make an arguable claim on these topics and then explain why it matters. I will give my point of view on the action that I believe should be taken dealing with these two subjects. Unfortunately, in today's society there is no shortage of murder and drug abuse and no matter what the law may be it will always exist.

The topic I am going to use for my third essay is importance of getting a higher level education. Honestly it is rare to find a career that pays over $70,000 a year, unless you're just athletic enough to play a professional sport or have great entertaining ability. Now if you don't have any education after high school, you're most likely looking at having a dead nine to five job, that will be able to support your family, if you're lucky. In the past it might have been different, where you didn't have to have a college education to get a great job with benefits, but nowadays these jobs are just about extinct. For example, my dad's job, he's been workining there for just about 35 years, he has no college education, but he has great benefits and an even better pension. Now though, I asked my dad if he could get me on there, and he told me that they are gonna start limiting benefits, and taking away pension in the next 5 to 6 years. It is clear to see that without an education after high school, there is a very slim chance that a great career can be achieved.
Harter, J. Essay 3-Causal Analysis
As of right now I would like to do my paper on the rise in the number of cases of ecoli infection and the possible causes. There is some concern that the problems we are now facing are of our own doing. When I say we I mean farmers and cattle breeders. The question I will ask and try to find answers for in my paper is whether the cases of infection can be traced back to cattle ranching and changes in feeding practices. Have farmers, meat producers, packing plants, whoever by their need for "higher quality" and faster produced usable meat products caused what is now being blamed on produce farmers? Have we as a people advanced ourselves in to a problem that should no longer be a problem in a culture with the advancements we have?
Kaycee R
I am going to write on drugs and how it is still very popular in this world. How people are using for good and bad. Like the selling, using, and the marketing.
Jeremy's ideas on essay 3
I'm going to write about societies view's on mental illness and its effects. Of the homeless americans thatlive on the streets have mental problems that could be taken care of if they had adequate medical care that assited there needs, like medication could curb theamount of homeless in america. Societies limited view on mental illness drives it underground were people are ashamed of there illness which causes a persons illness to go unchecked which amplfies the mental condition to the point where some one could seriuosly injure or seriously injure someone else that could result in the death the person or people around that person. Also another form of mental illness is societies way of having social interactions with each other. we as people are social creatures yet in this modern age with the use of the internet and t.v. we continue to separate from each other and in doing so made ourselves less human to one another for example road rage when a person gets so angry when he is driving he could kill the person who cut him off because at that moment that person does not see the victim as another human being with a familiy feelings etc. etc. I guess I will be writing about the view of mental illness of society and how it is ignored and the lasting effects on society.
Social Issues Caused by the Media
Many of the problems that we have with ourselves are caused by todays media. The term of beauty no longer applies to what it did many years ago. When we think of beauty, we think of being extremely skinny, a lot of makeup, and superficial ideas. No longer does the media portray the inner beauty of mankind, the mind and heart in each of us. Many children today are being brought up on the fact that sex sells, being super thin is what is hot, and trampy clothes are where its at. A really basic way to tell how society is effecting the way society is, is to look at the celebrities who are under constant scruntity. Every single day, we hear something new about them, wether it is drug abuse, suicide, or being checked into rehab for some reason. The pressure of always being in the light of the media, under every little flaw, becomes too much to bear for anyone. They then try and "correct" themselves, only to be the center of the media again, for however they delt with their problems.
Social Issues Caused by Religion
Religion is the cause of many issues in society today, and if you think about it religion has been the cause of most problems in the world. The crusades, the Spanish inquisition, and more recently 9/11 were all motivated by religious reasons.
Now don't put me on a cross here (lol, pun), I'm not saying religion is a bad thing. There have been many positive things brought into this world because of religious reasons, and having faith in a higher power can usually help a person get through the trials and tribulations of life. But that isn't the focus of this. This is more of a focus on how things would be different if we could ignore our religious differences.
With religious differences also come cultural differences also. Christians and Muslims for example both follow different practices that effect how they live their life. And it's usually people being intolerant of these practices that lead to nasty things like religious discrimination lawsuits.

The idea I'm leaning towards for my essay is child abuse and the effects it has on them as they grow into adults. Children who have been sexually abused in one form or another have many issues growing up. They believe it is their fault, that no one will believe them, and that they are an easy, weak target. Once this happens to a child their self esteem goes into the dirt. An adverse, but common, effect is that the child will completely black the whole scenario out of their mind. They will be in complete d.e.n.i.a.l (Don't even know i am lying) Either way... As they mature they start to fall into the wrong crowds, they try drugs as a short escape and easily become addicted. They will go from the perfect church going child to a fucked up angry teenager, and no one will understand. It's a slow process but it ultimately haunts the child forever. Even after blacking it out they still have the nightmares, still blame themselves, and question why this "God" would ever let someone do this to them. These children, now adults, have difficult times developing intimate relationships with other. They can't let themselves be vulnerable to another because the results can be all too tragic to go through again. What is most sad about the issue is that they are not honest with someone, even if they love them, because they've already been sexually abused, think very low of themselves, and the thought of being emotionally torn apart is all too much to bear, to even think about. To completely give yourself to someone, your deepest, darkest secrets, fears, and fantasies is to leave yourself wide open, to stand in front of a southpaw, vulnerable and defenceless as they throw all their weight into a left hook. These children have already been devistated physically but to be taken apart by someone they care about is not an option. Unfortunately most of these kids grow up feeling like an empty shell, a hollow human being, acting out becuase they think they are just another criminal to society. These children go from broken homes to TDC, and to them, there is no future, just a couple calenders before they can get out, and go right back in. It's a lifestyle to them, and in some sick, twisted, beautiful and uncomprendable way, they love it. They are addicted to chaos. There is hope, there is another way. We just need to believe. We need to want to want change, to make the decision to give ourselves to our God so that he may build and mold us into a person to do his bidding.
That's all i have for right now.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I think im going to write about how television effect the minds of adolescent. Then they grow up with these ideas of normality in there head which makes them some what prejustice tword homosexuality and racial backgrounds. And then i will go into how it also occur in other forms of media. Such as how when you see a poster for example with two people it is almost always a man and a woman. Both of the white heritage.
Not only does the media effect infants. It has an effect on grown adults and even a slight control of the federal government. Why do you think gay marraige isn't legalized federally....because in the eyes of the government. Its not normal. Many try to change this law and all have failed. Descrimination is illegal all over the usa yet we have decrimination in our own fricken constitution. Ugh i get mad even thinking about this hypocritical country.

Essay 3 Nicholas Tibaldo
I am thinking about writing about child abuse. Like if the person who did the abuse was abuse or how it affected their subconscious. I whant to research and find out what kind of mental effects it has on the child and how they dealt with it. Maybe find some one who would be willing to share their experience with me and maybe talk with some one who has been abused, other than myself. I hope i can find enough info to support it but i think i will be able to. So if any one has any imout just let me know thanks. Okay i have to add more so here i go. I knwo this is goign to be a had subject to write about not becasue there wont be enough information,. but because of the content over which i am writing. It may even be hard to read, but to this is a subject that needs to be more well known to people, so that we will have a better understanding of how much of a affect it has onn the person. There is so much out there for me to read, but i just have to figure out where it si going to go in my paper. I want people to ahev more of an understandingof how big of an affect this has on person, if the person is strong enough to deal with it or if they are able to share it wiht others and then help some one else in the end.

I think i'm going to do my essay on the the cause and effects of abuse. in the house on maple street, the kids and their mother were being abused mentally, emotionally, and physically. i've done a little research, and it seems like a good topic. i can use the short story the "house on maple street" as a source, and of course some other outside sources. i'm not sure what the causes of abuse are. i'm sure there are many, but my essay will focus on the main causes. the effects are the same. i'm sure there are many, but my paper will focus on the main ones. there are many kinds of abuse. in the house on maple street, the mother was abused verbally, mentally, and emotionally by her husband. the children were as well. one child was even physically abused when he received a hard spankin for hardly no reason at all.
DRollins Essay 3 Ideas
At first I wasn't too sure about what I was going to write about because there are so many good topics that I would like to share and I want my topic to have an impact on whom ever it may concern. So.....I chose to write about the effects of Aspergers Syndrome (Mental Disorder). It has effected my family personally so I think I can put alot into this paper and inspire those who choose to read it. I am going to talk about the founding of the disorder and what it is. The causes and effects of it and try to answer some of the unanswered questions to those who are interested. I have very strong feelings about this topic because its a handicap to an extent and the more people who are involved, the more chance of a treatment. Although, some non-profit organizations are saying that autism is treatable. My essay group also came up with a few great ideas that were pretty in depth with humanity like, the behavioral aspects of children and society's long for normality.
C.K.Beanland Essay 3 Ideas
I am going to write about the causes and effects of abuse, drinking, and smoking. I will use the short story "The House on Maple Street" for abuse, and I will touch on "Quitters Inc." for smoking. I will be using outside research for my the rest of my topics. I will probably also touch on how the possible effect on depending on technology. If I do, then i will use the story "Trucks" to help support that.
My main focus will be on the malnutrition of obese children. I will write about why they are obese, and what caused them to become so overweight, such as lack of excersise, and fast food. I will also write about the health risks at which these children are facing and a few of the options they have to help themselves.

Essay 3 zach von ruff
I have a few ideas for this next essay. I really want to talk about the effects of high tution. I think it has become too expensive to go to college. I know a lot of people who have gotten into great schools that cant go because it cost to much. It isnt fair for them. I know that there is money out there, but with every college stundent trying to get money for school it becomes difficult. I have a friend who got a 40,000 dollar schloarship to go to a university and he still couldnt afford to go. It hard for people who dont have a lot of money to go to nice universitys. I think some of the major results of high tution are lower enrollment for colleges, people feeling like college is out of reach for them, and ultimatly creating more economic troubles for the middle and lower class. People tell me to go and apply for a grant. Well i cant get one because my parents have a high income, but they are also paying for four kids to go to college and they cant afford to let all of us go. now days, a college education is essetial to being succesful. But the cost of tution and room and board make it almost impossible for some people. To be honest im not really sure how we can solve this problem. Maybe more scholarships should be designated strickly to students who have 2 or more family members in college or something of that nature. Education is such a valuable thing and it shouldnt be limited to the wealthy.

My idea is that technology is going to cause the world a major down fall. We rely on technology so much in the world that when we dont have computers and cell phones etc. we will not be able to function properly. All these satallites and power lines and stuff. One day we are going to overload. Then the entire worlds power will be gone resulting in this theory. So far the storys im going to use are Trucks and Mangler in my essey. I do not know what sources i will be using so if anyone has any ideas on that please let me know. Thank you. Anyways, The main idea of my story will basically be how cell phones computers and telivision and everything will no longer be there causing the world to go into caotic distress. This might not happen in any of our life times but it is unavoidable as of now.I think king has similar views on technology because of his writings. Like the novel cell. Trucks is screaming this idea. How there is so much advances in the truck will cause it to malfunction. yada yada. lol. ttyl in class......peace.

Technology: Beneficial or Detrimental?
I honestly am hung in between both beneficial and detrimental, because it can go either way just depending on how you look at it. Yes, technology benefits us with our healthcare, travel, communications, and education, but at the same time it also hurts us, because it is slowly has deteriorated our planet and also we have grown to reliant on technology. To go more in depth on the positive side of technology, without it there are thousands of people whose are changed because of the medical advances that have been created, for instance without these medical advances my knee cap would not be attached to my leg. Also without technology how would we get to school or work without having to wake up hours before we would originally have to, but with technology we are now able to get places faster through automobiles, trains, and even planes. Now we can even talk to people on the other side of the world with the technology we have now, whether it is through a phone or a computer, it is possible to communicate instantly. Tehcnology also hurts us though, and it does this because it tears our enviroment apart by polluting it. To most pollution is not a good enough reason for people to think that technology is bad for us, but if you really think about it, it is hurting each and everyone of us. The pollution is opening our ozone layer and this is making all of us more vulnerable to skin cancers. Now, we all breathe in every last bit of our own pollution, and that also is detrimental to our health.

Technology Can Be A Good Thing
I had originally posted a couple of days ago, and after going over it again, I noticed that I steered away from the subject of "Technology", only to write about the short stories, and a couple of my personal experiences.
I'd like to revise this if it's okay. So, here I go.....
Technology is a good thing, but like all things in life, it depends on the person and/or people that invent and use the applications. I believe that most of us, as human beings have good intentions. It's just a shame sometimes, how one person can spoil the whole darned thing, and ruin it for everyone.
Let me go out on a limb here, and bring up the subject of identification. Not long ago, someone that's close to me was a victim of identity theft. That crime is not considered a "Violent Crime", and so the guilty party went unpunished. The case is still open, but it is on the back burner. Meanwhile, 72K later, we are still suffering. The woman that did the crime is still out enjoying her life I'm guessing, because we haven't seen a hide nor hair of her since she did this. She got away with it by getting her greedy, grubby, filthy fingers on a Company Credit Card. You know the kind. They send out cards randomly to entice you to spend your money. "We don't do plastic",....but apparently she had NO PROBLEM there! So, is Technology good? That's a hard one! Let's just say no, on that scenario.
Good can come from technology. In fact, technology is a wonderful, and most the time it's a wondrous thing. Just think of all the lives technology has saved! And let's not forget about how spoiled we are, either. There's alot of folks that couldn't do without it. We can take the subject of Technology down to the bare bottom. Fire. Although fire is one of Nature's natural resources, we use it with technology everyday. For example, heating up our concoctions in the beakers we use in our Laboratories everyday.
Transportion is another way of our world. Most of us couldn't get to Grandma's house, (although mine is in Heaven) if it were not for the combustible engine? But the "down" side of the combustible engine is pollution. There are many old and new idea's out there that tell us we don't have to use that pollution causing motor, that there are other mean's of transportation. I mean water and electricity for example. One Bureaucrat vs. the other Bureaucrat, and there we go...in a controversial debut. And in most cases, it all boils down to either votes or money. (In translation that means power.)
So in conclusion, technology is only as good as the people inventing it, and putting it to use. Now, HOW we put it to use is the question. In some cases we can actually say when, but it still has a line drawn in there. Good or Bad. I vote for the first option.

Technology
Technology has its benefits when it comes to transportation and communication. Also in forms of entertainment like ipods, computers and cell phones technology may have its quirks. But what is this all worth? Does it make you have better happier lives? TV and video games have been manipulating children's minds for years. The media on tv is also manipulating minds of adults since the government has funded corporate television outlets, spreading lies and covering the truth. Technology may be the cause of global warming, throwing nature's cycle off course, and who knows what this would do. There is no doubt that technology has benefited society as a whole, but in the long run what will it really do for us?
Wednesday, October 10, 2007
I’m not sure what side I want to be on in this. There’s no denying that technology is beneficial to everyone. Technology is a major part of my life. I believe that technology is both beneficial and detrimental to society. No one can deny that technology is beneficial. Think about it. Where would we b without it?? Almost everything we do involves technology. For most of us, it is a part of our daily lives. I am on my cell phone 24/7. I don't know what I’d do without it. Ever since I’ve come to COM, I do literally all of my work on the computer. My whole life practically revolves around technology. I’m interested in a career in the medical field, and all of the medical technological advances are simply amazing. The things that doctors today can do for us because of technology are very beneficial to everyone. Some people would not even be alive if it weren’t for technology.
Idk I guess I’m gonna list a few random things that support my idea that technology is beneficial to us all
-there are so many ways that technology has benefited in the medical field that they may just be uncountable
-technology has helped a lot in communication. You can send a letter to your friend who lives on the other side of the world in like 10 seconds through email, or u could pick up your cell phone and make calls across the world.
It’s so easy for everyone to know what’s going on in the world because we can turn on our televisions to channel 11 or 13 and watch the news.
-transportation has come a long way due to technology. We can travel safely by land, air and sea.
-what the heck would I do without my hair dryer?? I ♥ my hair dryer. Thank u technology!!
- We can track hurricanes and storms.
-and much, much more
There are so many awesome things we can do that we owe to technology, but it can be detrimental. Like Jeremy said, it depends on how we use it. We shouldn’t use technology to be evil, and we shouldn’t use it in a way that harms our environment especially if we can prevent it. And like Quentin said, we shouldn’t let it make us lazy. Instead of watching TV or surfing the web all day, try a nice walk in the park or something, ya know?? But like Zach said, the good outweighs the bad (in my opinion).
Well ha I guess that for different reasons, I’m going to be on both sides. I might just decide to say that it is beneficial. But idk yet. I believe that technology is beneficial, but it can be detrimental if we go about it the wrong way.

essay 2 on tech
Technology is both beneficial and detrimental to humanity. Technology has changed our life in several ways. If you think of how we get around, how we communicate and what we do for entertainment. Technology has also made our life harder in several ways like identity theft, war, and Technology
There are several benefits to technology. The life expectancy of people is higher than it has ever been. Our health care is one of the best in the world because of technology. Technology has saved millions of lives. This is only a little bit of how technology has been saving our lives. Technology has revolutionized the way communicate towards each other is. Thirty years ago if you would of told some one walking down the street, that in a few years they would be able to take there phone with then any where in the world they would of laugh in your face. Look at the way the computer and internet has changed the world. Computers are a part of our lives in almost every since. Computers are how we keep up with our money and pay bills. At work people use them to run their business. If it was not for technology we would not have computers. Transportation is all about technology. Cars now days are full of wonderful peaces of technology besides the car itself. Safety in cars has never been better. If you look at how cars are made, it is incredible the amount of technology that is used. In a car factory robots are taking the place of people and assembly the vehicles. It seams impossible but some how they can do it because of technology. Technology is hear to stay one way or the other

FGundermann Essay 2
First of all I like that there is spell check but you will enjoy that more than me. The messages that Stephen King gives to us through his short stories are pretty clear. Technology can and already has corrupted our way of life. I'm not to say if its good or bad due to the fact I would be the biggest hypocrite in the state. I say that Technology has corrupted us because of the high dependency of it. Technology is good due to the number of diseases that can be stoped due to the research allowed by it. In "Night Shift" a man made substance had been released into the air and became a IDLH "Immediate Danger to Life or Health". The machines used to create this is a form of technology that can take a turn for the worst. In Quitters Inc. technology was used in the manner that no one really would approve of, discipline/ tourcherd. Dr. Danatti took the loved ones of the patient and tourcherd them in front of the patient to help them during their withdrawls.
jescalante essay2
Technology, although very helpful in many ways, is not beneficial to the human race. Medicine
has advanced tremendously; yet, there are a vast number of diseases for which there is no
known cure. A good example is “Night Surf,” where the A6 virus wipes out the human race or “The Woman in the Room,” where a son kills his mother because technology will not be able to cure her.
Even vehicles can cause damage when not used properly. Every year thousands of people are killed in accidents. Vehicles are supposed to take us places rapidly and safely, but they can actually be a death trap. In “Trucks,” vehicles not only kill people, but they also enslave the entire human race in an effort to keep them fueled.
Guns are meant to be used in times of war or to defend ourselves. Instead, they are used to commit crimes. This might be the harshest and most dangerous misuse of technology.
Technology could even cause machines to develop a mind of their own. A future of machines killing humans and taking over the world, as shown in the movie “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” does not seem so fictional when we see how advanced technology is truly becoming. In “The Mangler,” an ironing and folding machine gets a taste of blood and then goes on a killing spree.
Technology is man’s greatest accomplishment; yet, it could also be the downfall of man.

Technology and its Benefits
Technology can be detrimental, but I think it is more beneficial than it is detrimental. There are many sides on if it is detrimental or harmful, but I think it depends on how you use or even depend on technology. If you use technology a lot then you probably think it is beneficial or even if you do not, but most of the time people who do not use it that often do agree that it is that beneficial. I think technology can be both, but mainly beneficial. It is very beneficial for the reasons being many, but I think these are the most important. It is beneficial because it keeps you organized, contacting someone is easier, and it is good for health reasons. It helps a lot in those areas of this universe, being that if we are more organized it helps things go faster, being able to contact someone easier will help in many different areas, and technology is very beneficial in the health area for multiple of reasons. Yes technology is not always beneficial, but the for the most part it is very beneficial and not as detrimental. It helps this world function in many different ways.
Francis Codina
Technology is what makes the world go round
We depend on technology to make our lives easier and happier. Some may say that technology has a dark side and are bad to this planet. To this I ask if you blame the gun for killing the person or the man who pulled the trigger. You can not blame technology for what bad people use it for. Technology have helped the human beings become what we are today. Without technology cave men would not have eaten because the spears and arrows they used to hunt are concidered technology. Technology can also be credited to amazing medical advancements such as curing diseases and prosthetic limbs. The ones who put a bad name to technology can not say so with out naming off all the benefits they themselves use. The fact that they are using the internet to blog about how detrimental technology is an oxymoron itself. Unless these nay sayers all live in a box their beliefs can not hold strong because they are hypocrites, then again the box they live in is also a technological advancement so they would probably just live in the bushes. The fact that chimpanzees can use technology shows that mother nature approves of our advanced thinking of making our lives easier with technology.
My Idea's for Essay 2
I have decided to stick with my original idea that technology is good. Withought the technology we use we would be in a prehistoric state of living. Technology has brought on more good than bad and it will only continue to get better and better. Withought technology we would have a much greater death-rate, would not be able to save the wounded, and could never find out things we usually would know. Without computers we could not be conected to the world like we are, and world relations would be down. Withought technology cars would not exist. Neither would cell phones, microwaves and game systems. With technology we can keep moving towards the future. In fact, I think that the future kind of hinges off of technology. Not saying it's bad though. I will also delve into the downsides that technology has brought. For instance, alot of war tools have been created due to advencments in technology. Also, technology can be used for terrorism. These are just a few idea's I would like to touch.
Technology Beneficial or Detrimental, NUNU
Technology! Wow! It amazes me how fast it's progressing. Look around you technology is every where. Computers coming from rooms full of hardware with the memory of a calculator, to microprocessors and smaller than you can handle computers being able to process faster than you can type. From the old way of writing a book with a pen, to saving tons of ink by typing your blog on the internet. Will it ever come to an end?
Well as a technology freak waiting on the newest portable media player or something new to that I don’t even know or heard about. From waiting ten days to receive a letter from folks with Polaroid pictures, to typing the message and adding attachments such as pictures of the family and sending it via email. It all makes sense. Technology not only helps us keep in touch with our far away peers, it beats riding a horse to San Antonio to deliver mail.
I’ll be using “Quitters” and “The Jaunt” as examples in my essay. Although it seems I’m all on the beneficial side of it. I have this thing on my mind about it. The day humans build something they are unable to control. Something like a robot that can read your thoughts just by analyzing the temperature of your body. I'm in the middle of it all but I hope we don’t take it that far.

Technology- Is it Beneficial or Detrimental
Well I think technology is both beneficial and detrimental. I think that it's great that we have cell phones, cars, computers, appliances etc... It's good to have a cell phone if we're in trouble or have a flat tire or even in the worst case if someone needs to call 911 when on the road. If we didn't have computers I don't know where the world would be. Everything is done by computers theses days. Cars, well I don't even have to say why those are beneficial. With all that said let's look at how theses things are detrimental. Take cell phones, how many accidents have been caused by people talking on their cell phones while driving and forgot about the road. I mean people have been killed and some of them were someone else not even in the car of the person on the cell phone. Computers are great but when they go down everything goes with it. Cars are a necessity but when they break down, it breaks you're pocket too. Appliances are great, but again when they break so does your pocket. I think there is a disadvantage to every advantage in most things. Also as harse as it sounds, I think with all the technology we are fourtinate to have today has some how made us as a people very lazy and dependable on things instead of ourselves.

Do I think technology is good or bad? I'm indecisive about it. I believe that technology can be good and bad in many ways. Depending on if its helpful to others or if its harming to others. Some technology can put people out of a job and some can help people in their job frame.
Alot of people are unfamiliar with technology and that may put those people in the mind frame that technology is not good. Have you ever thought about that?
Some ideas for technology are becoming to extreme and are costing a great deal of money to portray.
Some ideas for technology are very useful in times of an emergency, such as cell phones and email.
Some people think that technology is good for all the wrong reasons such as, hacking into other peoples files and running online scams for money.
These are just a few things for you and I to think about when going over ideas about whether technology is a good or bad asset to this world.

my tech essay ideal
Well, the big topic. Is technology beneficial or detrimental? i'm not to sure. first inmy essay i want to actually discuss what technology really is, and how much it relates to our lives, and how similar it is to other common tools. i want to put on the actuall definition of technology and my definition. many people are supprised to hear the actuall definition. it would be more precise to call the topic 'is electronic technology beneficial or detrimental?' then i want to discuss the time frame side of electronic technology. many people see the future of tech either very good or very bad, often times they forget to think about the past or present state of tech simply because of movies and stories playing on the imagination of people about tech in the future. a story in a futuristic setting will either have amazing tech or computers will take over or something. i also want to discuss the moral and ethical side of tech. whether or not it make us insociable or reclusive. values and beliefs affect your perspective on everthing. then at the very end i will write my opinion and reasons for it. ttyl
Technology
Without a doubt, technology is changing the world on a daily basis. In the last 20 years alone we have made leaps and bounds in the fields of medicine, business, and communication. But where does it stop.? When do we say enough is enough.? The world isn't even the same anymore. Technology has it's benefits, but I believe it is starting to become detrimental to our society.
Let's start with the small issues and work our way up. Our society is becoming very unhealthy. What happened to a large fry and drink.? Oh no.! Now you have to "Whatasize it.!" "Super size it.!" and "Biggie size it.!" which is fine, except we dont do much to keep the weight off. And why should we.? I mean we can go home, turn on the tv (with all 150 channels.!) and when you're tired of Who wants to be a Millionaire.? you can go hop on the computer. Now days our youth want to sit at home and watch the 9 different channels of Nickolodian (spelling.?) or just get on AIM and talk to all their friends while they check their MySpace and listen to stolen music. Pft, who wants to go play outside after school.? It's hot as hell out there right now. I'll have Central Cooling with a Keyboard, please. I was playing WoW (yeah. i love MMO's) just the other day and my boss, so i thought, starts sending me tells talking trash. Naturally, i retort back with speed, accuracy, and non-stop verbal shots below the belt. Come to find out, it was his 7 year old daughter.!!! This little adorable girl was over here ragging on me and takling to me, just like her daddy, and i had no idea.! Her typing was perfect.! I remember learning to type when i was about 13, becuase the school made me...
Hackers are running rampant. A good hacker can just sit at home and make a living on the computer. They can get your Social Security Number, your credit card number, passwords to everything on your computer, bascially - ANYTHING. All they do is use a keylogger. It's crazy. Our personal security is compromised on a daily basis when we hop on the internet and just start bidding like a madman on EBAY. "But i have the most up to date computer protection programs." NO.! You think those people aren't smart enough to keep up with that and work around it.? C'mon now.
Let's go a step above hackers. Predators. These sick fucks sit around all day and talk to underage kids, both girls and bois. Haven't you seen the commercial.? The little girl says that guys his age really "get her." They understand. Noone else does. They really get their rocks off playing the whole game, the understanding, charming person who is the only one that really gets you. These people get busted left and right by FBI agents posing as young kids and setting these people up, but to be honest - Even if you had 100,000 agents on the computer every day acting like underage kids, you still woudln't catch all of them. It's just too easy. And they get off a little too easy, in my opinion.
At what point are we gonna piss someone off so bad that they make (or build, whatever.) a huge nuke and then send it our way.? Certainly we'd have to send one theirs. America will not stand for that.!!! So then, both countries are left with a barren waste land of dirt and a radiation infected population, if we're lucky. This would certainly cripple the world's economy, but then the allies of each side would have to fight it out, and eventually the world would slowly become just another uninhabited planet.
What about cell phones.? Dude, i seriously have no clue how people did without them 20 years ago. My cell phone is never more than 5 feet from me. I charge it on my nightstand, and then it stays on my ear or in my pocket during my 18hour day. But what about the research that is showing a huge link between cell phones and brain cancer.?? I suppose it's like cigarettes. You can prove it and preach till you're blue in the face but ultimately, people are still gonna smoke, and they're damn sure gonna keep that cell phone on them. The world is at your fingertips, literally. Hell you can get on the internet and check your email using just your thumb.
Technology is growing so fast that it's starting to scare me. Call me crazy but i do believe eventually it is going to be our downfall. I believe that one day, we are going to start being implanted with Chips or tattoo'd with bar codes or something for identification. Almost like your CVS card, but inside your hand or something. Now, i'm only 21years old man but i've said it since i was 10years old. I really would have liked to have grown up in the '50's. Times were so much simpler. It wasn't uncommon to hop on your bike and ride 3miles to the creek 2 or 3 times a day to go swimming, or fishing, or just to hang out. TV was civilized. Some cardboard fat kid eating cheasy-poofs on tv yelling "GOD DAMN IT KYLE YOU FUCKING JEW" was unheard of. Words like that were spoken behind closed doors.
Well class is over, sorry for cutting it short. :-/ i hope this blog is ok.

Technology: The Pro's and Con's
As I started this paper, I peeked at my peers idea's, the format, and etc., and I noticed that most everyone had a "qualified statement" format. The first paper that I did in this class was a qualified statement and it seems that I could've done better by actually deciding to take a stand, one way or the other.
Which leads me to; Technology is a good thing. (Besides "Big Brotherism"- if that is a term, I don't know but it is now!) Just think where we would be without it!
If you can't tell by now, I am kind of confused. I want to touch on the short stories that we all have read, to revert to special topics of technology.
On the short story "The Jaunt".... (I watch alot of SciFi.) "Stargate Atlantis" and "Stargate SG1" could possibly be happening now! That would be so cool. It beats the heck out of riding a couch to Earth or Mars, I think. Of course this is only my opinion. It would also give us an option in case our world blew up due to pollution. Which I pray never happens.
I often worry about my grandchildren, and their grandchildren. Should we stop having children? That's what "Grandma Doughty" use to say.
On the short story "The Woman In The Room"...I realize that this isn't as technical as the other short stories, but it does raise the question, "what would you do?" For instance if my mother (who has long since been gone), needed my assistance in dying I would probably leave her the pills, but I wouldn't feed them to her.
When I lived in the country, we all used to shoot our suffering animals because there were no Veterinarian's that were less than 70 miles away. By the time you got the cow, horse or which ever animal was suffering, loaded up they would be dead. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to sound like I'm comparing my mother to a cow, but animals are living beings. In fact, I trust animals more than I do most people.
Obviously there are countless idea's on technology, that we can all "ponder upon", so I will be thinking more on these idea's, and all of the idea's that yawl have posted, will give me information to further my paper.

Shae's Idea
There is a question about technology whether it is beneficial or detrimental? I can agree to say that I am more for the issue rather than against it . In most cases I feel that having technology is convenient and speeds up the process and make it for everyday living. For example: computers are one of the most efficient tools used today. I am able to communicate to the outside world now through computers. Because of computers, I was able to find a cousin that I raised from birth until the age of six years old when her birth mother came and took her away. She went online to search for me and we were re-united three months ago, she is now twenty years old. In the same aspect the downsides of using a computer is that it makes you more susceptible to identity theft. Also if a computer crashes you could also loose a lot of important data. Cell phones were another good invention. For instance having a cell phone in the event of having a very important emergency like a burglary, a car accident and also if your child was sick and needed assistance. A downfall of this would have to be, that you cannot use it while driving because your more likely to get in an accident. Another good technology resource could be a GPS or navigational system, it is very much so a good source because there are many people that travel and having that at hand could be very suffient.
Juan's Idea: The Dangers of Technology
With all the benefits of the internet, computer, cellphones, and other electronic devices there are also many dangers that come with using it. Hackers, phreakers, viruses, spyware, and other malicious things compromise your saftey. For every upgrade to your anti-virus there is a virus to mess up your computer. For every software patch to stop hackers there is a loophole to get around it. You might have heard the old saying "Where there's a will there's a way." This is especially true for nerds who dont have anything better to do then mess with programs all day to find out strange things to do with the newest version of Windows.
Its not just your everyday PC that is at risk though. Your cellphone is also a target. Take Paris Hilton (I'm pretty sure you dont care about her) for example. A while back her phone was hacked and all her contacts and risque photos were leaked to the internet. While this incident did lead to some quite hilarious conversations with some of her contacts, it does give a good indication of how vuneralbe you are.
