Cell #1

Clayton is the main character of the story, and no surprise he's a writer; as many other main characters of King novels. On the day of his big success he is faced by panic and mayhem. A pulse rings out into cell phones driving the world mad, luckily for our star he's one of the very few who does not own one. Watching the world crumble before him he meets Tom and Alice, survivors of the disaster that unfolds very quickly on an average sunny day.

The main social issues at the moment seem to be centered around panic and shock. At this time the basis is reactions, fighting the urge to stand in horror and drudge forward to find common sanity in others. I found one particular part amusing though; Clay slides the knife into his belt loop and begins quoting a comic hero, Tom not being part of the inside joke feels a nature of awkwardness. After watching people run down the street babbling nonsense I think I would have had a stronger reaction to Clay's quirky remarks.

I felt the police officer response was adequate but far too soon in the story to feel real. However it is like us as humanity to try to cover legal basis as something apocalyptic unfolds, giving them cards and saying they may need to testify to the situation.

So far a decent story, interested in seeing it play out.

Dolores Claiborne #1

There are lots of little plots going on in this novel. Two main plots jump out at me. First, Vera Donovan is dead and Dolores is suspected of doing her in. Secondly, Vera admits to killing her husband. The main characters are Dolores Claiborne, Vera Donovan and Joe St. George. Dolores and Vera are obviously important but Joe is not so noticeable at this stage in the book. The reason I consider him to be a main character is because I couldn’t stop thinking about him after Dolores said she killed him. It was always at the back of my mind; even as Dolores talks about the war with Vera’s bowels. Domestic violence is one social issue in this book. All three main people violate any number of civil rights with strong emphasis on employer misconduct. I guess Dolores gets back at Vera. She doesn’t appear to be too put out over being treated this way.

Misery 1

For starters, I am very glad I chose this novel. It kept me interested the entire time. As a matter of fact, it kept me so interested that I have already finished reading it. In the first section, the main characters, Paul Sheldon and Annie Wilkes, are introduced to the story. Paul, a well-known writer, was taken from his crashed car by Annie, a psychotic former nurse. As it turns out, Annie is the “number one fan” to Paul’s novel series, Misery. As the “number one fan”, Annie is extremely upset that Paul has chosen to kill off Misery in the final book. She is not happy with this, so she wants Paul to write one more novel for the series called Misery’s Return. As far as I could tell there were not any social issues brought up at this point. The main focus of the novel so far is on Paul and Annie alone.

Dolores Claiborne 1

Main Characters: Dolores Claiborne,Joe St. George, Vera Donovan, Andy Bissett

Main Events: Dolores Claiborne is being interview by detective Andy Bissett on the death of Vera Donovan who was Dolores' Employer. There was talk around town that Dolores killed her husband Joe St. George because he was an alcoholic and used to hit her. Dolores admits to killing Joe but not for those reasons. Dolores was a live in house keeper for Vera "Missus" Donovan after Vera's husband dies and she fires her previous staff. Dolores explains how mean and anal Vera was about her home and how she was a "bitch" to everyone she employed and she was hard to work for. Dolores then explains how she then became more than just a house keeper for Vera after she had a few strokes and couldn't do for herself. Dolores explains how Vera would defecate on herself and play with it just so Dolores would have to clean it up, sort of a way of showing Dolores she still controlled everything even though she could hardly move.

Social Issues: Domestic Violence, Alcoholism, Verbal and Physical Abuse,Gossip

Cell

The main characters we have met so far are Clayton, Tom and Alice, a trio of survivors in Boston. So far the story has unfolded that everyone using a cell phone has heard a "pulse" that turned them into cannibal zombies. Our characters have faced attacks and in the case of Alice had to choose life over family connections. The city has been compared to a war zone.
The main social issues I see raised have been what effect has cell phones had on society? Have we lost some of what makes us human? Without face to face communication are we devolving?
I am thoroughly enjoying the story so far. A thought that made me laugh was initially I said to myself I would have been out of luck, a total zombie, I am always using my phone, but then I thought about it more and I don't actually talk on my phone very often. I use apps and the internet and texting, a lot of texting but rarely talk so maybe I would have been alright after all.

Misery #1

Misery starts off with Paul Sheldon, a bestselling novelist who falls victim to psychotic nurse, Annie Wilkes, who happens to be his number one fan of his Misery series. At the beginning of the story, we find Paul Sheldon was on his way home from his Colorado hideaway after finishing off his latest book. While on the way home he is caught in the middle of a blizzard and runs off a cliff and gets badly injured. Afterwards he is found and rescued by Annie Wilkes who takes him to her house rather than a hospital without telling anyone. In the beginning Annie Wilkes appears to be of help by providing Paul Sheldon with medical aid and shelter, due to the fact that she was a nurse. After a time of caring for Paul, she discovers his new novel and reads, and after she finds out that the main character dies out of the series. With anger she destroys Paul’s only copy of the book, and she buys a new typewriter, called The Royal, and forces him to write a new copy of the way she wants it, called Misery’s Return.

Green Mile part 1.

The main characters in part 1 are Paul Edgecombe, John Coffey(Steroids), Warden Moores, Eduard Delacroix, Dean Stanton, Harry Terwilliger, Brutus Howell Percy Wetmore, Old Sparky, Mr.Jingles, Klaus Detterick, Howie Detterick, Cora Detterick, Kathie Dtterick.

The book begins with Paul discussing about john coffey entering the E block. John Coffey is huge 6'8" and 280pounds. But he has the mind of a childs he is very kind and even asks paul to leave a light on during the night because he is scared of the dark. John is accused of raping and murdering 2 young girls. After detailing john coffeys entering the prison stephen king talks about how they found john coffey. Klaus and Howie, the father and brother of the 2 murdered girls had tracked him through the woods and found john holding both of the girls dead bodies. King finishes the the first part by talking about mr.jingles (pet mouse) eating a piece of a sandwich.

The social issues touched on by king in the first part of the green mile were the prison system, police brutality, murder and rape.

Rose Madder

The main characters include Rose or "Rosie Daniels, her husband Norman, and the kind but odd looking stranger. What we have read so far was interesting but a little boring. Basically, Rose has been living with her mentally and physically abusive husband who is a sheriff. He beat her every day because he was basically psychotic. He would take out all of his anger on her, just because he was "stressed out". When something in his mind went wrong her bones or organs would pay the price. Rose seems to be in a trance like state of mind. This seems to be a defense mechanism to me. She has dwindled into a scared little baby who is sheltered in the house all day. It seems she has some what lost track of time and life itself. Until one day a single drop of blood encouraged her enough to get out and never come back to that kind of evil. The Social issues involve the fact she was so droned out in the beginning. That is of course not normal, she never went outside or communicated with anyone. The only time she ever went out was to get groceries at a set time. Every day with her husband was controlled at a set time. The fact that the abuse was so accepted and tolerated from Norman was not normal.Norman seemed like a normal guy to everyone on the outside when really he was this crazy psycho. Another social issue with Rose is when she finally went out into the world. she is so scared of being found by her husband. She is paranoid constantly, because she truly believes he will kill her if he finds her. This makes her like an abused dog when around normal people. She's always expecting a slap in the face. The last thing we read was the stranger she meets at the station giving her directions to a women's shelter. She walks to find the shelter and gets lost.

Carrie 1

Main Characters

Carrie (Carrietta) White
Carrie’s Mother – Margaret White
Sue Snell
Chris Hargensen

Social Issues

Religion
Bullism, the effects of
Parenting, sheltering children

Summary

The book begins with Carrie in the locker room showers. She experiences her first menstrual period, but is unaware of what is happening to her. Her confusion disgusts the other girls in the showers who begin to mock her, throwing feminine napkins at her and calling names. The episode is instigated more or less by the ring-leader Chris Hargensen. During this first scene Sue Snell is also introduced as she takes part in harassing Carrie. The remainder of the chapter explains Carrie’s life until now, that she has always been made fun of because of her and her mother’s religious nature.

The next chapter explains Carrie’s home life, the strange happenings in her early childhood and the emergence of her telekinetic powers.

Green mile part 1

Green Mile part 1 February 23, 2011
In the beginning of the novel you are introduced to cold Mountain. A prison and death row facility. “Old sparky” is the nickname given to the electric chair with awaits every death row inmate. We are introduced to John coffey early on in the chapter, ( a huge black man convicted of a crime to sick to mention.) He was convicted of the rape and murder of the Detterick twins. You are also introduced to the prison guards. Brutus ‘brutal Howe”, percy wetmore, and Paul Edgecombe. John Coffey is brought into E block, and seems to be afraid of the dark. A strange characteristic of someone his size. The main plot events that occur in this section are it shows what led to the arrest of coffey and how he ended up in prison and early things about the characters. I think the social issues it tackles are racisim and cruel and unusual punishment.

Cell #1

The main characters are Clayton Riddell, “mustache guy”, Franklin, Tom, and Alice. The story starts out in total chaos around Boston. Essay2

In essay two my oppositions will be opposing technology. The opposing views may be technology is bad because people over using cell phones, televisions or the internet. Cell phones can be harmful when people are using them while they are driving and may cause accidents. When children or adults are constantly sitting watching television, they are harming themselves by not getting any exercise. This lack of exercise can lead to them being over weight or obesity. The internet is one of the main sources that people get their information from and people tend to put false information online.

Essay #2 Expantion

I took the idea of how the Technology is important for this era. I am learning every day about new progress in  nuclear medicine  to apply for kill cancer cells, every day on TV news I am listening the discovering of new devices on technology .These machines; they are part of my life. Reasons: save lives, for example, Technology is in every where, it is helping with a lot of contribuition to develop easy ways to survive, doctors are in constantly discoverings on new techniques to improve health care on patients.
My friend desagree about technology, because when the power is gone, the world stop, some people said that if we are learning how safe our lives fast with technology, we have to learn in the same time how to survive without technology too.
Now everything is on computers!

IDK

I don’t believe Technology is beneficial or detrimental. I think it’s both so I really didn’t want to argue one. I have already written this out once and don’t feel like writing it again but whatever and here it goes. I pointed out that technology is beneficial in many ways. My examples included transportation, medical reasons, fun, and of course communication. I seem to be more emotional towards the detrimental side because people seem to be so disconnected even though we are so “connected” with technology. People are always on their computer, cell phones, video games, etc. there is hardly any real tangible face to face communication or human interaction. Also how would people react if suddenly technology was wiped out completely? Everyone would be in chaotic mess acting like the world is ending. I just believe people shouldn't rely so much on technology in case something like that does happen. Anyways I basically pointed out the good and bad, and wrote that it’s not my place to decide the correct answer for “Is technology detrimental or beneficial.”

Ideas for essay 2

My first essay is about the negative parts about transportation. I wrote what happens when we are out of fuel, and how new sources of fuel can be bad for us. The thing is it feels like it is easier to find good things about transportation. That is why I tried to write about how fragile it is, and how fragile our society is. How fast everything can break down due to weather changes, when we are out of a source of fuel. However, what I said earlier. Transportation is a very good thing we have, how well developed it really is. How we can move from point A to point B in just a few minutes with a car, that would have taken maybe an hour to walk. How we can travel from different countries in a matter of few hours. Just jump on a plane and all of a sudden you will be in a new place. As we speak there are new ways of transportation coming. Safer cars that can drive them selves which will lead to less accidents. Faster planes, faster trains. We will be able to go to new destinations faster then now.

Twelve Round Split Decision

There really is't an exact answer whether technology is beneficial or detrimental to humanity. On my first outlook the benefits of technology outwieghed everything else. After taking a second look there are so many ways technology can go wrong. Judging by the way Stephen King writes about technology in his books, he would defiantly support it to be detrimental. It's going to be so much easier to find support from our books that are so against technology. There's a huge variety of things to talk about so negativly, like so many people do on a daily basis, so I might even have to narrow the topic down some. Bad technology can include so many different things from war to contibuting to lack of excersise. My first opinion is that so many people are growing lazy and forgetting about good old fashioned hard work that founded our country. That same effort tanslates to an educational effort with so many different things to sidetrack you. No one wants to work on homework when you have so many video games and television stations to flip through. There are countless ways the media can control our government with so many people uneducated and all they have is a TV station telling everyone what the person with the most money wants you to hear. Would terrorist be threatning our family without technology? We can also ask ourselves if the money we give to some of our untrusted countries for oil is going to destroy us with emissions from our vehicle, or nuclear warfare....

The Movie Story

I wrote about how people started watching a favorite movie at the local movie theater, and how great it was seen them for the first time. In recent years, the technology has done advances that changes in how people watch movies outside the movie theater. In creating a multi purpose gadget for people to buy at the electronic stores. That gives people more access connection in watching movies without leaving the home, and lowering the cost of rented movies. I mention two different favorite of renting a movie like Netflix, the Red Box are ways in renting movies that lowers the price of the common renting stores of the new release. It has become very popular that many local renting facilities have close down. The most recent new technology of is the via line streaming, that are more popular accessible to watch it at any TV or computer monitors connected to the service of internet. Making it possible to view most recent movies in the comfort our own home. The two new renting habits are also becoming via line streaming creating a new service of renting. I think renting a favorite movie without leaving home is great but I'm trouble in understanding why is not a great idea In coming up with ideas has been challenging. I have talked to my neighbors, they thinks it has been great. One liked it in saving on gas, another avoiding the traffic all together especially after a long day at work and tired.
