Misery #1

Misery starts off with Paul Sheldon, a bestselling novelist who falls victim to psychotic nurse, Annie Wilkes, who happens to be his number one fan of his Misery series. At the beginning of the story, we find Paul Sheldon was on his way home from his Colorado hideaway after finishing off his latest book. While on the way home he is caught in the middle of a blizzard and runs off a cliff and gets badly injured. Afterwards he is found and rescued by Annie Wilkes who takes him to her house rather than a hospital without telling anyone. In the beginning Annie Wilkes appears to be of help by providing Paul Sheldon with medical aid and shelter, due to the fact that she was a nurse. After a time of caring for Paul, she discovers his new novel and reads, and after she finds out that the main character dies out of the series. With anger she destroys Paul’s only copy of the book, and she buys a new typewriter, called The Royal, and forces him to write a new copy of the way she wants it, called Misery’s Return.

I really like the fact that this blog is very detailed and you know exactly what you're talking about. You made it sound very interesting and kept me wanting to hear more. Keep up the good work!

I like that you mention that, in the beginning, Annie appears to be helping him. When I first read this, I thought she was just being helpful and that she wasn't able to get him to a hospital for the same reason he ran off the road in the first place: the weather. It is slowly that you realize that everything isn't quite right, and then King just plunges off the deep end, taking you with him. Excellent summary and introduction to the characters, all at the same time. Good work!

The only part that I disagree with is the statement that says Annie rescues Paul. I honestly believe that someone else would have driven by and noticed him. They may not have saved him from some bad infections from waiting so long but it has to be better than the consequences of Annie.

i agree with you, you do think that annie is tring to help him, save him but the more you read you relize that she is not and he seems to be lost not knowing what to do everytime she comes to him she does something else.
