I agree with the fact that it touches on topics such as police brutality and cruel and unusual punishment. seems like an interesting novel!
Good summary, another issue i felt they kinda nonchalantly mentioned was racism, because i felt like they just kinda looked at john coffey with the mentality that, well hes black and we found him holding the girls he did it no matter what and didn't even give him a fair trial or even the chance at a trial which isn't right. Now if they had just followed the other trail that the dogs had found they might have actually found the real killer but once again they didn't even think about the other trail once they saw john. But ya I can't wait to read the rest of the story and see how it unfolds.
I thought the fact that the Chief ends up being executed for killing someone in a drunken fight but the President ends up getting out of his execution even though he murdered his own relative with full intention in order to get cash was a little unfair too.
LOL! I like how you note Steroids next to John Coffey. As I was reading the book I thought about him as being a gentle giant. Even though he was found holding the dead girls, he was clearly upset and crying. He never once was combative or resistive which I think told a lot about his character right away. In my viewpoint, not many murders stick around holding and crying about their victims and what they did. So this hit me right off the back. Also what didn’t make sense was how the girls didn’t scream and the dog didn’t bark (before he was killed). If a huge black man was trying to take me in the middle of the night I would scream my head off. So this was definitely a thought that crossed my mind. Also, Mr. Jingles the mouse was interesting. He is certainly a main character in my eyes.
