In my opinion, "Quitters, Inc." was a tad morbid. I'd like to think that I wasn't as addicted to smokes as the poor folks in this short story. I mean really; I'd have to put some SERIOUS hurt on anyone who hurt my loved one's, let alone if someone...some STRANGER, cut off one of their fingers. I've been smoking for over half of my life, and WHEN I quit, it won't be because of someone trying to make a buck, or threating me.
Is technology a benefit or a detriment to society? Now to me i believe it is a benefit. I believe there are several benefits to it. Almost everything you use now days has some kind of computers in them and is always improving to make things easier and better for people. Look at our vehicles now days there is so many different electrical gadgets in them. You can call some one o unlock your vehicle for you without anybody touching your car. Not to long ago we didn't even really have power windows or even alarms on our vehicles. Now every car out there comes with one. Then look at today's medicine compared to back in the day. People use to die from the regular cold virus. Now that we have advanced in medicine that is like nothing now days. And then the advances in surgery and emergency care. The football player that broke his neck and already is able to move parts of his body because they used some kind of cold stuff that was injected into his blood system to help the swelling. Which allowed him to come back so soon. I know a guy that broke his neck riding motocross and it took him a year before he could even start to move. it has been over 2 years since then and he is just now getting to use some of his body parts freely. Now Internet usage is a big thing now days. Some people don't even leave there house anymore. They just sit on the computer now and order everything through the Internet. It has come so far that now we are able to order food from the Internet.
