Essay 2: Technology
Like most people this day and age, I would be lost without the everyday use of some kind of technology. When it comes to whether its benefitial or detrimental for our society I'm going to have to ride the fence. Like many people I think that technology has its pros and cons. The advances that have been made in the past have really made life simpler. Such as something as basic as E-mail, now and days you can speak to someone on the other side of the world at no cost as in 20 years ago you would have to pay an arm and a leg for a three minute conversation. It's even possible for a person to never have to leave their house for anything because everything is availiable online and can be delivered to your doorstep. But of couse all good things have a downside including technology. Could you imagine having to go one week without the daily usage of a computer ,i know i couldnt. That might be the problem. People may be growing just a little too dependant on technology.

how dependent are we on electricity? plumbing? housing? grocery stores? all of these fit in the definition of technology... could we survive without them? how different is this situation from the one you described? its just more advanced tech. did everyone freak out and think that convenience store would take over the economy? or make everyone lazy and reclusive? take a broader look.
I remember when y2k was giving everyone a scare. Could you imagine how things would be if all of our technology should fail? Of course, I believe we could survive but it sure would be tough to get use to. I hope that we will never have to experience a real y2k in the future.
I also ride the fence on the topic, because I believe that without technology, I don't know where we'd be, but I also feel that we are becoming too reliant. Honestly most people have jobs that sre over 10 miles away from their home, and without vehicles it wouldn't be possible to get to work on time without having to leave a few hours earlier. But the downside to vehicles is that we have grown so used to using them that we drive our vehicles just right down the street, instead of walking, which is keeping us from getting a little excersize.
