Problem and Solution Essay #3

I'm really having a hard time with this topic. Probably making it a lot harder than it should be. Every topic that I think I want to use is so broad. It's hard to write over local issues since I'm not from the area and never read a paper or watch the local news I don't have a clue what any of the local issues are.
I am interested and need to start researching the status of mental health facilities here in the area. The fact that over the years so much funding has been cut not only within cities but recently here in the entire state is scary. There are people capable of functioning as normal human beings with the proper treatment and care. So many of our mentally ill don't get the treatment that they need and end up in our homeless population.
I think this is probably the route I am going to go.

The plight of the mentally ill is definitely a problem that needs a solution. Unfortunately when budgets get slashed mental illness support and funding seems to be one of the first things believed to be disposable.
Is your solution that governmental funding needs to be increased or that NGO groups need to step up and provide more support?
I firmly believe that if mental illness was seen as a disease like cancer or diabetes people would be mre likely to want to offer help.

If you can't think of something from this local area, maybe you should consider using an idea from your local area instead. I'm sure that would be okay as long as the topic is on a relatively small-medium scale. The goverment seems to have cut a lot of spending on healthcare recently. It seems as if officials have become disinterested with giving aid to the needy which impacts the local area greatly. A mentally ill person can become a danger to himself and others if not tended to or not given sufficient medication. If adequate funding was available, I'm sure people could find proper treatment and could continue being a productive member of society.
