The main events of the plot so far is about a crazy lady named Annie Wilkes that has kept Paul Sheldon (a famous writer) captive after a major car crash, giving him "backwoods" treatment so to speak by crutching his legs up with sawed off metal bars from materials around her house. Paul has almost died on several occasions but she uses her skills to bring him back. She has an abundance of medication laying around that she has been giving him for infection and pain. She did not take him to a hospital or call the police. She lives in the middle of no where with the nearest town many miles away. She lives on a farm alone with no visitors because people do not like her very much. She is obsessed with his books "Misery" and after reading the final book has become angry with the outcome. She wants him to write a new book where Misery does not die. She wants him to write the book as she sees fit and will not let him go or help his recovery until he does so. She is an ex-nurse that lost her job and has had to go to court to account for her actions whatever they may have been, they have not been revealed yet.

The main characters at this point have only been Annie Wilkes and Paul Sheldon. Her animals and a man in town have been mentioned but are certainly not a main character.

The social issues I see at this point are that Annie is a loner with an unstable mind. She has a weird obsession with this writer and it seems she does not have too much contact with the outside world other than her animals. Paul is a well known writer with many friends but has been cut off from civilization.

I agree that there are multiple social issues at hand at this point. At this point in the story there are only two main characters and most of the story has taken place in one single. Stephen King has done a good job of raising more than one social issue and creating such suspense thus far
