Essay 4 Ideas

In my essay 4 I'm going to be writing about the death penalty as used in the novel The Green Mile. I am going to be writing a position paper where I will be against the death penalty. I feel this topic will be pretty easy to write about because there is so much being said on the topic. I feel it will be esy to find many facts to support my reasoning. There are many reasons why people should be against the death penalty and why it is wrong to execute another human being. A few reasons I will be discussing are; the religious issue, it's unconstitutional, the cost, and the possibility of someone being falsely convicted. About 95% of the United States believe in God therefore why is this even legal in our country. When it comes to the cost of the death penalty it cost at least 1.25 million dollars more than a case resulting in a sentence of life in prison without parole. Lack of belief of our judicial system has made it hard to feel confident in sending someone to death row. As King wrote in his novel The Green Mile, John Coffey was sentenced to death row for two accounts of rape and murder he didn't even commit.

Your essay seems like it will be very intersesting and controversial. I think that the death penalty should not be because I think the people who murder, rape, and kidnap should be caged and given only the bare minimum needed to live out long sentences. I would think that building prisons, feeding, clothing, and paying for the utilities they use every single day would necesitate higher taxes to pay for the inmates. With the death penalty they are just given a shot and a few minutes of a doctors day while not using up as much resources, so I am very interested in hearing this part of the agrgument. Secondly the United States is for the separation of church and state so religion shouldn't have anything to do with weather or not the death penalty exists. It is very sad that some people are wrongfully accused though.
This essay sounds very interesting! Best of luck!

This sounds very interesting, great topic! I hadn't really thought about writing about something like that before, but I bet it will turn out to be a really great position paper. I think the death penalty is wrong, especially since there is always that chance that someone is innocent, as you said.

Death Penalty is a very strong subject and think that it is a great and interesting topic. I do agree to an extent and for certain crimes such as murders, obviously. I think this will be great and good luck!
